More About Me
I’m Kianna Voorhees (she/her), licensed therapist and founder of KNV Wellness and Therapy.
I'm passionate about helping people heal from trauma and become the best version of themselves. My goal as a clinician is to help my clients reconnect with their ability to heal themselves and rely on the mind and body's inner wisdom to assist in moving through life's challenges. I often use mindfulness-based practices, EMDR, CBT, and somatic approaches in my work. I aim to help you find a sense of wellbeing in your mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual life.
My Background & Therapeutic Approach
My interest in trauma treatment started when I supported sexual violence survivors at Philadelphia’s rape crisis center. In individual therapy, group therapy, and advocacy work, I admired the process of seeing people reclaim their sense of power and safety, and go on to become advocates and leaders in their communities. I was honored to be apart of their journeys and knew that I wanted this work to be at the center of my career.
My approach is inspired by my personal journey with managing depression and complex trauma. When I sought my own treatment, I began to see the limits of traditional talk therapy. I became very good at talking about what I experienced from a logical and rational perspective, but I had no idea how to feel, process, and move through my emotions. It wasn’t until I was introduced to mindfulness, yoga, breathwork, and somatic experiencing practices that I realized the aspect of healing I was missing.
With this new insight, I became passionate about combining traditional therapy approaches with holistic healing practices, and began in-depth study of meditation and mindfulness, somatic and energetic healing, breathwork, and holistic medicine. I trained as a mindfulness meditation teacher and am a proud graduate of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, facilitated by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. I’m also a Level II Reiki practitioner.
Being a therapist is not just a job for me. Creating spaces that are transformative, honest, healing, and affirming is a calling. My work has been nurtured by my personal experience of putting myself back together after some tough times. Never will I claim to have it all figured out, but I can commit to walking alongside you as you journey towards your own healing.
The 5 Principles of my Practice
We already possess everything we need to heal, but often life’s challenges lead us to forget who we are and what we’re capable of. My goal as your therapist is to support you in your process of rediscovery, as you reconnect with your inner voice, recognize your worth and value, and reclaim your power to choose your life path.
The mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual aspects of ourselves are intertwined. It’s not only important to discuss our thoughts and feelings in therapy, but also how we’re caring for our bodies, engaging in our communities, and cultivating a sense of meaning, purpose, and groundedness through the mysteries of life.
Culturally-responsive therapy involves honoring the pain of historical and generational trauma, recognizing the impact of colonialism and oppression, and increasing awareness of how these systems affect us all on an individual level – not to feel trapped by these systems, but to begin to recognize ourselves outside of them.
Our individual healing work provides us with the courage, skill, capacity, and desire to show up in our communities in ways that inspire holistic and heart-centered change.
My commitment to my own healing is what inspires and grounds my healing work with others. I personally know the power of trauma processing, culturally-responsive therapy, and community care. I believe in what I do, because I know it works.
